Denis Murphy, manager of Kilmeaden Co-operative Creamery and his wife Mary Keane-O’Keeffe, a native of Lisnakill, Butlerstown, pictured not long after their wedding in 1923.
Denis hailed from the Gaeltacht near Macroom, Co Cork and started work at Kilmeaden in 1916. Mary was step-daughter of John O’Keeffe, Kilronan, a widower who married her widowed mother, Ellen Keane, in 1903.
Her father, Matthew Keane, Lisnakill, was killed the year she was born (1899) when he was thrown from a horse & car on Paddy Browns Road in Waterford.
